Feastward

Last updated: 2026-09-15. What changed on this date is described in section 12.

The short version

Feastward stores your learning progress so it is there tomorrow and on your other devices. That is the whole reason it collects anything.

1. Who we are

Feastward ("we", "us") is an independent scripture-study app. Contact us about anything in this policy at hello@feastward.org.

2. You can use Feastward without an account

Feastward opens to a lesson. You are not asked to sign up to start, and nothing about the study experience is gated behind an account.

If you never create an account, your progress is stored only on your device and no personal information is transmitted to our servers at all.

3. What we collect, and only when you create an account

Creating an account is what turns on the server side of Feastward. Here is everything stored, by table, as it exists in the database schema:

Account and identity

Data Why Source
Email address To sign you in and to send password resets. It is the only way to reach your account You provide it
Password Stored only as a salted hash by our authentication provider. We never see or store your actual password You provide it
Handle and display name So friends and circle members can find and recognise you You provide them
Avatar selection A reference to one of our built-in illustrations. Not a photo, and not an upload You choose it
Time zone So a "day" and your streak roll over at your local midnight, not ours Chosen by you
Leaderboard opt-in flag Off by default. Records whether you chose to appear in league standings You choose it

Learning activity

Data Why
Lessons completed, with accuracy, XP earned and how long the lesson took To draw your path and your tree, and to know what to show you next
Per-item review state — how many times you have seen a passage, when it is next due, lapses This is the spaced-repetition schedule. It is the thing that makes review work
A review log — item, format, result, elapsed milliseconds, timestamp To schedule future reviews and diagnose scheduling bugs
Streak, longest streak, rest days and freezes held To run the streak and the weekly rest day
XP events — amount, source, and the lesson it came from To total your Light and run leagues

Social, only if you use it

Data Why
Friendships and their pending/accepted status To show friends and friend streaks
Friend streak counters To run the shared streak
Circles you own or joined, and their join codes To run circles
League season membership, XP within a season, rank Only if you turn leaderboards on. They are opt-in and default off

We do not collect your name (beyond a display name you choose), phone number, postal address, precise or coarse location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone input, biometrics, health data, financial or payment information, browsing history, or any advertising identifier. The app requests no location, contacts, camera, microphone, or notification-adjacent permission for tracking purposes.

4. Reflections stay on your device

Some lessons end with a reflection or prayer prompt. What you write there is stored in a private store on your device only. It is never transmitted to our servers, never included in sync, and never visible to us, to friends, or to circle members. There is no table for it in our database, because there is nothing to put in one.

Reflections are also never scored — there is no right answer and no XP difference. That is a product rule (docs/05 §5), and it is also why there is nothing about them worth uploading.

Deleting the app deletes your reflections. We cannot recover them, because we never had them.

5. What is stored on your device

Independent of any account, Feastward keeps local stores on your device so it works offline and starts instantly:

These are removed when you uninstall the app. On the web, they live in your browser's storage for that site and are removed when you clear site data.

6. How we use it

Only to run the app:

  1. Show you your progress, streak, tree, and what to study next.
  2. Schedule spaced review of the passages you are learning.
  3. Sync your progress between your devices.
  4. Run the social features you explicitly opt into.
  5. Keep the service working and secure, and fix bugs.

We do not profile you, build an advertising audience, train models on your content, score your spirituality, or make automated decisions about you.

7. Who else touches your data

We use a small number of service providers. They process data on our instructions and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

Provider What it does What it sees
Supabase Our database and authentication Everything in section 3
Vercel Hosts the Feastward website and web app Standard web server request logs, including IP address, for security and abuse prevention
Our donation processor Receives voluntary donations, if you choose to send one Only what you type on their own pages. The donate link takes you off Feastward entirely, and their privacy policy — not this one — governs what happens there. We never see or store your card details, and a donation is not linked to your Feastward account
Apple App Store / Google Play Will distribute the mobile apps when they ship. Feastward is a website today and is not yet in either store Whatever their own policies collect about downloads. Feastward is free, so there is nothing to purchase; we would receive only aggregate, non-identifying install reporting

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising. We have never done so and have no plan to.

We will disclose data only where legally required, and only after satisfying ourselves the request is valid.

8. Where your data lives, and how long

Data is stored on Supabase infrastructure. Account data is retained while your account exists.

9. Security

Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (TLS). Passwords are hashed, never stored in readable form. Access to the database is constrained by row-level security policies enforced by the database itself, so one account cannot read another account's rows even if the app asked it to.

No system is perfectly secure. If we ever discover a breach affecting your data, we will tell affected users and any regulator we are required to notify.

10. Your choices and your rights

Access and export. Ask at hello@feastward.org and we will send you a copy of the data tied to your account.

Correction. Handle, display name, avatar, time zone and rest day are editable in the app. For anything else, write to us.

Deletion. You can delete your account yourself, from inside the app: open Profile, and under Account choose Delete account. The screen lists exactly what will go and asks you to type DELETE to confirm, and the deletion happens immediately — there is no waiting period and nothing to cancel afterwards. If you would rather not do it yourself, or you cannot sign in, email hello@feastward.org from the address on the account and we will delete it for you.

Either route deletes the same thing. Deletion is permanent and cascades to progress, review state, streaks, XP, friendships, circle memberships and league entries. See Delete your account for the full list of what is removed and the short list of what is not.

Leaderboards. Opt-in, off by default, and you can turn them off again at any time.

Regional rights. If you are in the EEA or UK, our lawful bases are: performance of a contract (running the app you asked for) and legitimate interests (security and abuse prevention). You have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection, and the right to complain to your data protection authority. If you are in California, you have rights of access, deletion, correction and portability, and the right not to be discriminated against for using them; we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA.

11. Children

Feastward is written for teenagers and adults, and part of its intended audience is 14 and up.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and accounts are not intended for them. Under-13 users should use Feastward without an account, which transmits nothing. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, write to hello@feastward.org and we will delete it.

We do not use Feastward to build advertising profiles of anyone, of any age.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this materially — particularly if we ever switch on analytics or crash reporting, neither of which reports anything today — we will update the date at the top, describe the change on this page, and notify account holders in the app before it takes effect.

2026-09-15. We corrected section 10. It said Feastward did not yet offer account deletion from inside the app and that email was the only route. That stopped being true on 2026-08-31, when the in-app delete screen shipped at /account/delete, and the note stood for two weeks after it. Section 10 now describes the in-app route first and email as the alternative for anyone who would rather write to us or cannot sign in. Nothing about what deletion removes changed — only our description of how you reach it.

2026-09-03. We corrected the summary at the top of this policy. It previously listed Sentry among the tools not present in the app. A crash-reporting library from Sentry is now included in the app, but it is switched off: no destination is configured for it, so it never starts and never sends anything anywhere. Nothing about the information Feastward collects changed on this date — only our description of what the app contains. Section 7 lists no crash-reporting provider because none receives any data; if we ever switch this on, section 7 will list it and we will tell you here first.
